Legacy certified advisers now available to help you
From the moment we launched the Farm Journal Legacy Project, there has been more need than resources. We will continue to add succession planning services to meet those needs. As a part of that pledge, Kevin Spafford and his team at Legacy by Design have assembled a team of Legacy certified advisers who put more boots on the ground to help farm families with succession plans.
At press time, there are 11 advisers in eight states, with another dozen in the training pipeline. Each adviser is certified to provide comprehensive and tailored planning services.
"We carefully select and screen the advisers, requiring a razor-clean record and extensive financial planning experience," says Spafford, Farm Journal columnist and succession planning expert. "From there, we provide multi-level legacy training to make sure each adviser is well prepared to help farm families across the country."
There is one adviser each in Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, and two advisers each in California, New York and Ohio. All are available to travel to other states. To access their services, send an e-mail to email@example.com or call (877) 523-7411. Spafford’s team will match your family with an adviser.
In addition to helping families, the advisers are often on hand at Legacy Project Workshops to answer questions and provide more interaction.
Work is in progress to establish a network affiliate of related disciplines: attorneys, accountants, insurers, farm managers and lenders.
"Not every community has qualified experts in each discipline needed for succession planning," Spafford says. "We’re assembling a network that can help fill those gaps."
In addition, the Legacy Project team continues to provide valuable succession planning tools and information at www.farmjournallegacyproject.com. The weekly eNewsletter "Legacy
Moment," which comes out every Friday, is also available. To sign up for the eNewsletter and events, visit the Legacy Project website.
